Exmoor Slate Walling; A unique stone extracted from the heart of Exmoor, Devon originally was quarried as Roofing Slate. A very flat and rustic slate stone was actually a byproduct of an iron ore mine was used as early as 1500's and possibly earlier still. A building stone traditionally used very locally in Exmoor, North Somerset and in pockets of Devon but thanks to development of transport & machinery, this stone is used in projects nationwide as both house building & landscape walling stone. Available in strictly regulated quantities and supplied in selected or sawn to bed widths to order, this very rural traditional walling continues to be high desire in a wide range of schemes.
