Longleat Safari Park is one of the most spectacular wildlife park attractions in Europe. Located in the heart of Longleat forest, which is part of the Longleat Estate, it is one of the finest and best maintained private estates open to the public. The charming stately home, Longleat house, is set in 900 acres of beautiful Capability Brown landscaped gardens including a large lake.
Allgreen has been privileged to be involved in the reinstating and ongoing development of this extremely unique parkland for a number of years, supplying a large range of materials. One prime example: Anne, Britain’s last circus elephant, with a luxurious new purpose-built home in 2015, included over 300 tons of CARREG Holme Sand forming deep sand floors, perfect for her to sleep on and providing great exercise for her. Outside in her spacious paddock, CARREG Gold Limestone Feature Boulders form a natural boundary wall keeping Anne safe and providing perfect viewing for the thousands of visitors, free from traditional metal fencing or concrete barriers.
Longleat Safari Park hosts a huge number of special events annually which require extensive reinstatement of conservation lawns and grassed areas. A combination of EGRO Premium Blend Soil 10mm, Egro Topdressing Soil 70:30 and EGRO Meadow and Gold Meadow Turf rapidly restores these areas to their original glory.
Another project was the new Gorilla Colony enclosure completed in 2014, which involved over 10,000m² of EGRO Gold Medal Turf in big roll format, successfully installed in some of the wettest weather in British history!
Over in the BBC earth deadly challenge zone, there was extensive use of GEO Reed and Bamboo Screening as part of the fencing and natural boundaries, with other walkway areas incorporating BRITANNIA Chestnut Peeled Round 50-75mm Poles. Large pergola structures involved the large BRITANNIA Landscape Poles. Other themed areas such as agility zones with vertical rock climbing walls and zip wires, have soft landing pits filled with EPLAY Sand and EPLAY Chip.
