An inspiring country estate set in 250 acres which is mainly indigenous woodland and an awesome sea view in the famous North Devon. A large main house stands resolute and distinctive surrounded by servant’s cottages, stables, large walled gardens, a chapel and a quaint gatehouse.
Working with a brief that was primarily to provide materials that fitted with the original stone textures and colouring, Allgreen was asked to provide options of materials that would be required in large quantities in minimal lead in times. Over 19000 DENLEY Wessex Blend Handmade Clay Bricks were used in the restoration and reinstatement of the walled gardens in conjunction with 150 BRITANNIA New Oak Sleepers forming path edges and raised vegetable beds.
Long, straight access paths warmly light up the gardens with the soft creamy gold colours of CARREG Cotswold pebble 10mm. Tall, solid stone walls require ongoing repairs due to the fierce weather conditions of this coastal location, and FONTE Forest Red 4-6’’ Bed Walling is the perfect colour match to the original wine red stone.
The guest cottages have been completely renovated and the FONTE Darley Reclaimed Flagstones premium selection are the perfect entrance porch stones, specially chosen from large format flagstones. The inner courtyard and path areas are laid with FONTE Darley Buff Sawn York Setts with the small format working well in the enclosed area. The main paving terrace on the main house, gate house and large formal gardens, are paved with the naturally dark FONTE Richmond Weathered Riven Finish York Flagstones working in complete harmony with dark grey and brown native rubble stone walls.
